About Granite Benches

Granite benches have recently become a very popular type of cemetery memorial. Generally there are two unique bench styles.

The monubench is a hybrid design that blends a bench and a monument together. Monubenches generally have a vertical tablet stone that is joined to the bench seat. Most monubenches have plenty room for lettering and graphic design on the tablet and sometimes the family name is carved in bold letters on the front face of the seat to make the memorial easier to spot from a distance. Several different varieties are represented in the galleries above.

The second type is the classic bench with a seat and two legs or a seat and a pedestal base. These versions are the most common and they can fill the gap between a flat marker and a standard upright monument very nicely. There are many different varieties with polished or rough finishes, different shapes and of course, different colors of granite.

This type of bench is usually less visually imposing and more natural looking than a traditional upright cemetery monument. Also some families like them because they can linger longer at the grave while sitting on the bench. The cost is typically less than a standard upright monument but usually there's not a lot of room for lettering.

With both types of bench styles families can add flat grave memorials to mark individual graves and use the bench for a family plot headstone.
